Full Text of Swami's Divine 29th Convocation Message

Students, Embodiments of Love!

All of you want Swami to say at least a few words. You feel, “How nice it would be if Swami speaks for a few minutes”! However, I don’t want to say anything about the present system of education.

This land of Bharat has given birth to many noble women like Savitri who brought her dead husband back to life; Chandramati who extinguished wild fire with the power of truth. Sita who proved her chastity by coming out of blazing fire unscathed and Damayanti who reduced an evil-minded hunter to ashes with the power of her chastity. (Telugu Poem)

At first, Chandramati was fear-stricken by the raging forest fire. She along with her husband and son was surrounded by flames of wild fire. Nobody could say how they were all of a sudden surrounded by the raging flames. This, in fact, was a divine play. Ultimately, when Chandramati utilised her power of truth and chastity the fire was extinguished in a trice.

As Chandramati prayed, there was a heavy downpour. On one side there was a raging fire and on the other side started a heavy rain, and ultimately the fire was completely extinguished. Savitri was also endowed with great power of penance and chastity. She could even stop Yama (Lord of Death) from taking her husband’s life. She argued with Yama and told him, “The life of wife depends upon her husband and that of the husband on his wife.

One cannot live without the other. So, if you want to take my husband’s life, take my life also. Or else, spare his life. We are not separate from each other. It is my primary duty to safeguard my husband’s life”. Ultimately, Lord Yama had to revive Savitri’s husband. Is there any country or region in this world where one can find a woman like Savitri who could bring her dead husband back to life? Such divine power is latent in every human being. Man should draw this power from within himself, which he can utilise not only for himself but for others also.

During those times, wife considered her husband as her very life and vice-versa. But, unfortunately, the situation is not the same today. This sacred land of Bharat is surrounded by the seven seas. In this land, many women like Damayanti, Savitri performed intense penance. They are all women of great chastity. But today we do not find such women of great chastity.

A Pativrata (chaste woman) is one who considers her Pati (husband) as her very life and depends entirely on him. A Pativrata is one who does not talk back to her husband. There will not be even a little defect in her. She does not have any selfish desires. All that she does is for the sake of her husband. She would not even look at any male other than her husband.

Only such a woman can be called a true Pativrata. But modern ladies do not follow their husbands. They do not listen to what their husbands say. When the wife follows her husband and the husband follows the wife and both lead a life of harmony, then the entire country will attain peace and prosperity. It is due to the differences between the husband and wife and disunity in the family that the country is subjected to one trouble after the other. Both husband and wife should understand each other and adjust with each other.

A Pativrata who strictly obeys the command of her husband can do anything. If she prepares food for her husband with saline water of the ocean, it will be changed into sweet water. When the wife obeys the command of her husband and the husband fulfils the desires of his wife, then the future of the family will be safe and secure.

If they act contrary to this, the family will be subjected to great suffering. Both husband and wife may conduct themselves in a decent manner when they are in their house. But as soon as they step out of the house, they indulge in all sorts of evils. If there is no unity and harmony between wife and husband, there is no use of undertaking spiritual practices like Japa, Dhyana (chanting, meditation), etc.

When the wife follows her husband and the husband follows his wife, there is great happiness in the family. Strive to achieve such unity and harmony in your family. Then, your entire life will become happy and peaceful without any worries whatsoever. All your worries are of your own making. They are not given by God. God is not at a distant place. He is immanent in man. You should have unwavering faith in this truth. Then there will be happiness not only in the individual but also in society. Pure heart is the temple of God. Therefore, develop love in your heart. You will attain everything in life.

There will be peace and happiness in the family when both husband and wife share the same views. A Pativrata is one who has no other thought of anybody or anything except that of her husband. A woman who leads her life with such unflinching faith in her husband can achieve everything in her life. When both follow different paths, then there can be no peace and happiness in the family. You should not allow your mind to waver this way and that way. You should totally focus it on God. Contemplation of God is the basis to achieve unity and harmony in the family. When the wife prays to God, the husband will become a good person.

Chaste woman of yore like Sita and Damayanti had single-minded devotion towards their husbands. Sita was held captive in Lanka for ten months. But never even once did she look at the face of a male person. She spent all her time in the contemplation of Rama, sitting under a tree in Ashoka forest. She did not move out at all. As she was such a great chaste woman, she could prove her purity through Agni Pariksha (test of fire).

God is only one, not two. He is the indweller of your heart. If you constantly contemplate on Him, you will also become God. Whomsoever you come across, consider them as the embodiments of divinity. That is the principle of divinity. On the other hand, if you follow the vagaries of your mind and move about arbitrarily here and there, how can you become God? When you go to your college, why should you look here and there and indulge in vain gossip? Focus your mind on the purpose for which you have come. Do your work without developing unnecessary contacts. Look after your family. There is nothing wrong in this. Nobody tells you to give up performing your worldly duties. Live in the world and perform your duties. But always have divine feelings.

Many people go to places of pilgrimage like Badrinath, Amarnath, Kedarnath, Bhadrachalam, Tirupati, etc., in search of God. They think that they can find God at such places. Oh foolish man! God is not somewhere else. In fact, you yourself are God. God is present in all. God is only one and He is present wherever you look for Him. He is in you, with you, above you, below you. God is beyond birth and death and indwells every being in the form of Atma. He is present in all human beings right from a child to an old man. The same God is present in an ant, a mosquito and in all birds, beasts and animals. Therefore, do not go in search of God here and there and trouble yourself.

Wherever you see, God is present there. Whomsoever you see, there is God in him. God has no different form. All forms are His. That is why the Veda declared, Sahasra Seersha Purusha Sahasraksha Sahasra Pad (The Cosmic Being has thousands of heads, eyes and feet). When you sit for meditation, your mind wanders here and there. You should not allow the mind to waver and keep it always steady. When you go to a seashore, you will hear the waves making the sound of Om! When you concentrate on that sound, you will forget everything.

Since you are all young, I wish to emphasise this point. Do not develop opposition or differences among you. Controversies give rise to many troubles. These days some people marry not once, not twice, not thrice, but even four times. This is not a good practice. Be single-minded. Even if somebody makes you angry, do not fight with him. Understand that by fighting with others, you actually harm yourself. Control your thoughts. This is the quality of a truly educated person. This is called educare.

Along with education, you should also have educare. When you have educare, you will have everything – health, happiness, peace and prosperity. This is what I want you to understand. Everything will become good to you if you make your heart pure. At least from today onwards, take to the right path. If somebody tries to put you on the wrong path, do not pay any heed to him. Even if such a person comes to you and tries to start a conversation with you, do not even look at his face. Just ignore him and go away from him.

Students should live with unity in all matters. But today unity has disappeared altogether. On the other hand, enmity is on the rise. When one student in the class secures high marks, other students start feeling jealous of him. This should not be there. Because jealousy gives rise to hatred. There will be further divisions if politics enter the educational institutions. Therefore, all students should live with unity and solidarity.

You should achieve unity. There is no unity in the youth today. First and foremost, the youth should come forward to help each other. The end of education is character. If your character is good, then you can achieve anything in life. You may think you have won gold medals, acquired high degrees and achieved name and fame. But if you lack character, these degrees are merely a piece of paper. It is most essential for you to safeguard your character. Only such a person is a truly learned one.

When Ravana was taking Sita away to Lanka, she dropped all her ornaments in a bundle which fell a mountain. Rama and Lakshmana, while going in search of Sita, were shown this bundle by Sugriva. Rama asked Lakshmana to see the ornaments and identify if they belonged to Sita. Then Lakshmana replied, “Brother! I never looked at the face of Sita and therefore I do not know whether these ornaments belong to her or not. I can recognise only the anklets as I have seen them while offering my obeisances to her feet everyday”.

Sita, Rama and Lakshmana lived together in the forest for almost fourteen years. But not even once did Lakshmana look at the face of Sita. What a pure-hearted person Lakshmana was! Whenever he had to talk to Sita, he talked to her with his head bent down. As he was such a noble person, he could enjoy the wealth of proximity of Rama. When Lakshmana fell unconscious in the battlefield, Rama said, “If I search, I may get a wife like Sita but not a brother like Lakshmana. I can bear the separation from Sita, but not from Lakshmana”. Such was the strong bond of love between Rama and Lakshmana.

Students also should develop such unity considering all their brothers and sisters. All are human beings. All are the children of God. Therefore, you should live with unity without giving room to any differences. This is My message for you today.

Regarding Swami's health

Many Sai Devotees have written some wonderful Articles about How we should approach the aspect of Bhagawan's Physical Health, Or should we ?, Bhagawan knows everything about our Health and Also His. Everything that happens is only due to His Divine Will.

Quoting  Kasturi's writings:

Swami had an attack of cerebral thrombosis and He was in bed for eight days, from 29th June to 6th July 1963.  His left hand, left leg and eyes were affected, and His right hand was also slightly paralysed. 6th July was Guru Poornima day and the devotees were in gloom. Swami was brought down from His room by a few devotees, and He was placed on the Silver Chair in the Prayer Hall. Swami asked Kasturi to announce the following message:

" This is not Swami's illness; this is an illness Swami has taken in order to save one. Swami has no illness, nor will He get ill at any time. You must be all happy; that alone will make Swami happy. Your joy is Swami's food "

Then Bhagavan sprinkled a little water with His right hand on the striken left hand and left leg. After a little massage with his right hand of the affected parts, Bhagavan doffed off the disease in a trice. He started to speak and the devotees, who up to now were in gloom, were choked up with emotions of relief and happiness.

Swami spoke:

For those who have no refuge, God is the refuge. That is exactly the reason why I had to take on the disease that one helpless Bhaktha was to suffer from. He would not have survived it, nor could he have come through the four heart attacks I took on. My dharma is Bhaktharakshana (meaning saving of devotees). Of course, this is not the first time I have taken on the illness of those I want to save. Even in my previous body at Shirdi, I had this responsibility. This is my Leela. My nature. It is part of the task for which I have come.

It is how we Percieve Swami is and His Divine Message and His Divine Mission that makes us what we are . Once Bhagawan beautifully and wonderfully said to a Very Innocent Question as to why He is always happy and Smiling that "I see Myself in each and everyone of you, That is why Iam always happy", If Swami can see Himself and His Divine Form in all of us, Can we not see His Divine Form in Others and everyone ?. It is for every individual to decide.

A"SAI RESET" FOR THE BUZZER

A buzzer is an electronic signaling device driven by an electronic circuit. It is commonly used to indicate that a button has been pressed with a ring.Electronic buzzer find wide application in modern days.
You might be thinking how come a buzzer became a topic for my post .Because today was the day which redefined buzzer for me and my sis.Our school conducted an all kerala quiz competition 'NOVANTHA 2010 ' for higher secondary students.there were five rounds and the final round was BUZZER round. My sister and her two friends made the buzzer for this. They set everything earlier.

Today was the day of competition .Obviously I was the one who is in charge of the buzzer control. As soon as the bell rang I rushed to the language lab to check the buzzer.I was half paralyzed when I realized that it was not working properly. It had some problems with the reset button. Some students later said that since the lab was open yesterday somebody would have done this.Anyway there was no other option in front of me since my sister and her friends were having the university exams the very next day.I started praying to swami. After chanting sai gayathri me and my 3 friends switched it on once again.Only we 4 were present in that room.

As a final try before informing others I asked them to sit as contestants and asked the question to spell om sri sai ram.One of my christian friend pressed the button and she answered the question with complete faith that swami will take over the control of the buzzer. To our surprise the buzzer worked properly. We did a no. of trials and left the room having decided to face the fate with faith.

It was 1.30 pm ,the grand finale of the quiz began.I WAS CHANTING SAI GAYATHRI ALL THE TIME .I had informed my sis about the buzzer and she was also praying hard because she was sure that she couldn't reach there before the quiz starts. We left everything in the divine lotus feet and it was time for the buzzer round. The quiz master asked me to show the audience and contestants that the buzzer was working properly. YES MY LOVING SAI MAA DID THAT.Everything went well, the demonstration ,the final buzzer round and even the tie breaker was with the buzzer.
From this incident I learnt 2 things
  1. YOU SEEK REFUGE IN THE LOTUS FEET OF GOD,YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP.WHEREVER YOU GO THE DIVINE FEET WILL PROTECT YOU.
  2. BUZZER IS AN ELECTRONIC AUDIO SIGNALING DEVICE WHICH IS CONTROLLED BY MY LOVING SAI MAA

CONVERSATIONS WITH SAI MAA

Prof. Anil Kumar: Swami! We do both good and bad deeds. Don't our good actions nullify the evil effects of our bad actions? Don't they at least balance each other? In other words, will our good actions cancel the bad effects of our misdeeds?

Bhagavan: You are thinking like a Commerce student, along the lines of credit and debit. But, God is a Super Divine accountant. His balance sheet is not of your type. He will make you face the consequences of your actions, good for good actions and bad for bad actions. He will not add or subtract any of the consequences of your actions.
A small example: Suppose you have some seeds of both thorny plants and fruit-bearing trees. What happens when you sow them? The seeds of the thorny plants germinate into thorny bushes while the seeds of the fruit-bearing trees grow into fruit- bearing ones. Germination will never happen in any other way. The same is the case with your sinful deeds and the meritorious.
You must have seen persons who vow to offer ten thousand rupees to Lord Venkateshwara if they win a lottery of ten lakhs. Can't they understand that God, who can give you ten lakh rupees, doesn't expect your ten thousand rupees? They don't think reasonably and logically. People think according to their worldly standards. But, Swami wants you to spiritualise your mundane actions as well.

SALUTE THE GOOD AND THE BAD

You must bear in mind the company you keep. Kabir said, "I salute the bad and also the good!" Kabir was asked: "We can understand you offering salutations to the good, but what is the point in offering salutations to the bad?" He replied, "When I salute the bad, I am saluting them, saying, please remove yourself from my presence. I salute the good, saying, please come to me!" You must avoid the company of the bad and cultivate the company of the good. Association with the good is pure yoga! I desire that you should pursue this kind of yoga and confer happiness on all people with whom you are associated!

You should strive to get rid of all your bad thoughts, give up all your bad traits, discharge your obligations to your parents, render self-less service to the community and thereby redeem your lives and earn the grace of God.

CONVERSATIONS WITH SAI MAA

Sadhana, The Inner Door

Prof. Anil Kumar: Swami! What are the sources of our peace, happiness, wealth, comforts and conveniences? How do we get them? Why are some denied these most coveted things?

Bhagavan: You don't get anything in life for nothing. One gets these things in life because of any one of the following three reasons. Take one simple example: You know banking. You are an account holder. Suppose you want some money. What should you do? You go to your bank and get the amount. But you should be having enough money to your credit and by submitting a cheque, affixing your signature you can withdraw the money you want.

If you have nothing to your credit in the account; you don't get any money. Yet, you need money. How to get it? If you mortgage your permanent assets like gold or landed property, the bank will give you some money proportionately. You may not have permanent assets. Still you want money. Then, if a rich man stands as a surety or guarantor, the bank will give you the amount you need. Thus these are three ways of getting money from the bank.

Here money is God's grace. If you are doing some good deeds in the present i.e. depositing some amount of money in your account, you can withdraw the money of God's grace in the future. If in the present there is no such credit, at least the good deeds you did in the past, that is to say, your permanent assets when mortgaged to the bank, entitle you to receive money. Without these two good acts you may still be eligible to draw money from your bank if a rich man i.e. God or an Avatar or a Sadguru stands as your guarantor.

“Do you know God?”

“Do you know God?” once asked a religious preacher when addressing a group of people gathered to listen to his discourse.

A simple looking man stood up and said, “It is not important that I know God. What is important, God knows me. And He looks after me.”

The preacher kept quiet, stepped away from the podium, and walked away.

If you have the faith that in sun and shower God is with you, you know all that you need to know. That is enough to call forth His power to restructure your life. In fact it is now His responsibility to remake you for His work. No wonder the preacher had little else to say. Only when we experience darkness, do we know the value of light. But sometimes adversity strikes the most unexpected.

SAIMA IN ALL WALKS OF MY LIFE!!

I'll share with you my experiences and visions I acquired from the youth camp I attended on October 1,2 & 3 at Puttaparthi, ma beloved swami's place (physically). These are just some very silly thoughts. But Swami always taught me through very simple ways!! SAIRAM............

30/09/09
Friday

Reached Puttaparthi for my second youth camp.It was already half past 2pm when we reached there. Didn't take bath, but took a quick wash over hands, face and legs as we had to hurry for dharshan. We entered Kulwant hall at 4pm and Swami's students started chanting vedas.Quickly I was thrown into dozing with Sai Gayathri on my tongue, lips and in my heart.I remembered, always at the first sight  of Bhagwan I used to beblabber unknowingly. But, at that time i had no any hard feelings or longing. But when Swami entered the hall in wheel chair, at my Saima's first sight itself, at the very moment, I started weeping.Don't know what magic Swami has done in me. The only thing I knew was that, Iam weeping. Wailed and wailed and wailed...Then I could help to stop for some minutes. Then again went on wailing...During the whole bhajan time I was weeping; wailing loudly. Felt like, I lost something precious which I was longing for and got it back in the whole form... Felt like sharing my whole burden with a friend..Felt like weeping on the lap and under the arms of a mother...Then I could understand that I was longing for these days to get a dharshan of my Mother; my Friend; my Swami...I could cry loudly as the bhajan sound helped me not to disturb others beside me! I prayed hard that "Swami, I wanna cry burying my face on your laps.." Something miraculous (chamathkar) happened to me.! When I opened the eyes partly, could find that my tears are ochre colored, color of Swami's gown..I swear, it happened; I was not unconscious..! But that was for some seconds.. Felt like I was crying on Swami's lap. After sometime, everything came to as usual..First I thought, that may be due to reflection of light on the tears. But never I found that ochre color again, again when the tears veiled my eyes....!

Oh Swami......; how far we are apart' still you are always with me to hear and answer whatever I ask.........!MY BELOVED BHAGWAN............

"LIVING WITH AWARENESS"
The youth camp started at 7:05pm with Bhagwan's blessings..Introduction was by Sri Mukunthan Sir,Kerala State President,Sai Seva Organization.First class was taken by Sri.K.P.Ramachandran Nair (Unniyettan),Kerala State Coordinator,Sai Seva Organization. He talked about bringing a CONCEPT (GOD) to a PERCEPT(AVATHAR)..He is really an authority of experience. He shared with us how Swami saved him from the dreadgious disease, cancer...
One more thing, It was very rainy on the day we reached there. But the organization and we devotees had such a firm faith that there won't be any rain during our camp. The organization prepared the shamiyana with that full faith on the open ground. And there was no train from the registration onwards till the last day of our camp during any of our classes...

02/10/09
Friday
Today's classes were by Sri.T.G.Krishnamoorthy, Sri.Vijay Menon and Dr.Deepak Anand. T.G.Krishnamoorthy Sir talked about the importance of Karmayoga; how to relate god in our every deeds. He also talked about his car accident and how wonderfully Swami protected him.Sri.Vijay Menon gushed over non-vegetarianism. Such a powerful voice was his that each and every word penetrated deep into the heart.Sincerely speaking, a magnanimous character. Evening session was carried by Dr.Deepak Anand, a doctor of Swami's hospital, who has such a wonderful commitment and closeness with Swami. He took class on how a Sai Youth should be. He gave:
Y O U T-Truth H-Humility..He told about Swami's wonderful leelas in his life and his family.

Today I could understand that Swami is hearing my prayers, my questions, my doubts and watching all my deeds..Today I was confused that how can I do my daily morning sadhana from my hostel, as my roommates may be disturbed! Another doubt was that how can I convince one who asks me, what is Swami?I got the answer for these two questions which tangled my mind during Deepak Sir's class.Swami was talking through the tongue of Dr.Deepak Anand. He said that the best sadhana is the one to which we are more inclined to by birth. Now I have the answer that I could have done service! I love doing service,if Swami ever gives me a chance. In the same class, he told that SWAMI IS LOVE.. Yes, that is the more accurate, convincing answer for what Swami is!!!!!

03/10/09
Saturday
Today's eloquents were Sri.Somasekharan (Saidas), Unniyettan, Dr.Kaushik Narayanan and again Sri.Vijay Menon for evening session for concluding the camp. Somasekharan Sir's class was on the topic Youth and Spirituality. Unniyettan talked about the Sai Organization and its Functioning. Dr.Kaushik Narayanan explained Whom is to be called a Sai Youth..Kaushik Sir was humble and peaceful as that of earth and Vijay Menon Sir was powerful as that of silence..

Sunday
Today was one of the most wonderful days in my life! Swami blessed me with such a miracle today. The matter which Iam going to tell may be a simple coincidence as you feel, but its something wonderful for me as I could feel Swami's presence always now!
Today during dharshan, I asked Swami for Swami's sight and towel..I asked like this, "Swami, you are Sarwantharyami (living in all hearts) right!if so, even if we are this much distant apart, you should be hearing me and I want your handkerchief." Before that I asked for his look at-least once. I was longing for one because I had a plan to start my Karmayoga.Only with Swami's blessing I may do that, I felt so! Swami blessed me with a look from where he was sitting! Still, not satisfied completely, I asked for his handkerchief.. After aarathi when Swami started going back, I was repeatedly asking for Swami's towel in my mind!!!!!!When Swami's car's wheels turned to the way to residence my mind simply thought that, WHAT, IF SWAMI'S CAR COME BACK THROUGH THE WAY WHERE WE ARE SITTING, SO THAT WE MAY SEE SWAMI ONCE MORE, I WOULD FEEL? The moment this thing passed through my mind ,SWAMI'S CAR TURNED TO THE WAY IN FRONT OF US. See how beautifully Swami wiped off my doubt that 'if Swami is Sarwantharyami.....!'See how wonderfully Swami proved that HE IS SARWANTHARYAMI.......(Living In All Hearts)

TEN GUIDELINES FROM SWAMI

1. PUT IT ON THE LIST

Something need done or taken care of put it on list...NO, not your list put it on my TO-DO-LIST.Let ME be the one to take care of the problem. I can't help you until you turn it over to ME.And although my to-do-list is long.
I'm after all....GOD.

I can take care of anything you put into my hands.
In fact ,if the truth were ever really known, i take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.
